Stepping down...sort of Empty
PostSubject: Stepping down...sort of   Stepping down...sort of I_icon_minitimeTue Feb 12, 2013 8:57 am

Hey guys...I just wanted to make this post [members of IWF creative, Bmac and Hawk have already seen this] to let you all know about something EXTREMELY important that is going to be happening in IWF from now into the foreseeable future...

I am officially stepping down as the de-facto "Head Administrator" of IWF, effectively immediately

There is a reasoning behind this though...for those of you who don't know, I am a teacher in real life and yesterday I got told by the principal of my school that [due to budget cuts] there is an 80% chance that I will not be returning to my current teaching position here in NH. Now, i have been lazily looking for a new job [im trying to teach in Massachusetts which is closer to where i'm living now] but, up until this morning, i haven't really been looking too hard and planned to continue to slack off and pick up the intensity of the search in like mid-march. However, given the conversation I had with my principal earlier this morning, I now NEED to really light a fire under my own ass and start REALLY searching for a new job.

"Why should we care?" you are all probably asking yourselves.

Well, all of you should care because, starting after Nowhere to Run, I am going to start stepping down in a number of key ways:

1.) Reduced show writing. I am going to limit myself in terms of matches/segments I can write per week [after talking to Chuck I promised him that i'd be able to write one-two good matches per week plus a segment or two if need be]

2.) Outlining/assigning matches for IWF Creative to write/tallying votes. I can't continue to get the per capita volume of PM's i have been getting the last few weeks. I almost dread signing on every day because i know my inbox is going to be flooded with PM's. I love outlining and everything...but at the same time, with my job search NEEDING to intensify, I can't keep doing it.

3.) Cut down on basically being the Admin here who is the "de facto" lead admin. I know that, as of right now and in my own personal view [which i know is probably wrong], i'm usually the only admin who you can easily find, get a hold of, and know he will respond within a few hrs. I also kind of view myself as the de facto "lead" admin here in IWF [if only because i'm on so much and have the most experience...not including chuck]. I know i need to kind of step down from this leadership role and try to focus on my real life job search.

Now, with all that being said, i figure this gives me about two-three weeks to keep up at my current pace in terms of show writing and such. I will still try to carry on from now until Nowhere to Run...however, the era of CC being the "de facto" ass kicker/lead admin of IWF is coming to a [albeit temporary for now] close. I don't know what you guys want to do in order of divvying up all the CC tasks and show writing and shit...and like i said, i'll still be around and still chip in on matches and shit every now and then...but i can't keep being the work horse. My real life is about to get a whole fucking shit load more complicated with this whole "having to find a new goddamned job" thing and Krysten [my real life girlfriend of almost 3 years] and I might be moving sometime in the near future.

Now, I have talked to Chuck and gotten PM's from a few of the members of IWF Creative and such, all of them saying they support my decision and volunteering to help and such...and I truly and honest to God deeply appreciate the support. This isn't going to [hopefully] be a forever type of thing but at the same time, i can't help but to feel like this really does need to happen. Given the shit going on in my real life and the fact that, honestly, 8 out of 10 days, i dread logging onto IWF because I know i'm going to have 400 new PM's and a shit ton of storyline/segment stuff to handle and then i'll have to deal with the show being late and writers not doing their parts and then i'll stress about getting shit done....i'm just getting burned out at an absolutely incredible pace. Chuck has volunteered to step up and take over my role as de-facto "Head Admin of IWF" as well as figure out how to handle all the outlining and such...but he needs your help.

Chuck can't do this shit alone. He's going through college and struggling to become a teacher and trying to work as much as he can to earn money to pay off his college debts and such...which means he is going to need help. I can't promise him i'm going to be as active or as able and willing to do as much as I do around here for awhile...which means IWF needs to step up.

I'm asking you guys...if you have any respect for me, if you have any sort of loyalty to me and to IWF, please...volunteer to help Chuck with the tasks that he will have to shoulder. I know Gordon has volunteered to step his game up and CanMStone has been chomping at the bit to prove his worth to the IWF Admin team [a fact that has DEFINITELY not gone unnoticed CanM, I can PROMISE you that]. Axle Vengeance has also volunteered to step his game up...but these are the guys who already do so much around here that it's redic. Basically what i'm asking from all of you is to either post here or PM Chuck and let him know that you want to/can/are willing to help out however you can, be it week by week or a more permanent thing.

Please, from now on, send all PM's regarding: Storylines, Segments, Problems, and Votes to Chuck Matthews.

I will still be kicking around but, like I said, I will be taking on a SIGNIFICANTLY decreased role in terms of running things here. Hopefully this isn't permanent but, for now, it has definitely got to happen.

Please, continue to love and support IWF and please try to rally around the IWF banner like only IWF can and help Chuck out.

To sort of build on this:

Yeah, Corey's really been IWF's go-to guy for the better part of the last 7-8 months. There have been admins who have come and gone, and people who have taken on leadership roles...but CC is the dude who 1. Has been there since day one, and 2. Has put other things aside to focus on helping to make IWF thrive. We did know that one day, it would catch up with him, or something would happen that he'd need to temporarily step down. I did the same thing around this time last year, and CC stepped up and took the role of IWF's chief of state. We had briefly touched on this point in the past, and had sort of planned that if the time ever came for CC to step aside for a bit, that I would come back to my old duties, and lead IWF as the, as CC referred to it, "de facto admin."

That all being said, we know how I do business, and...that might be the problem. I'm willing to listen to any ideas you guys might have, you know that. I appreciate any help that can be given, be it Axle's top-notch gfx work, or Gordon writing a couple of matches every week. I'll take whatever I can get. As for my role in all of this? I'm going to, essentially, be taking CC's place. Remember all the times you asked "What exactly is it that Chuck DOES around here?" This is pretty much it: I've been biding time, making sure I could be totally recharged in the event that someone steps down. I am prepared to write entire shows if necessary. I'm prepared to run the entire IWF single-handedly if I need to...but you in IWF should know, I won't be able to do it for long. As CC said, I'm in school, and studying English, I'm usually writing between 5-10 pages a week as it is. Tack on another 10-20 for IWF, and I'm going to get burned out pretty quick. So..yes, I appreciate the help.

We're probably going to see some changes in IWF, solely because the way CC and I handle things is very different. I can say with near certainty that things will likely be much calmer, more relaxed. The CC rage won't really be there...but I will admit, I'm not nearly as efficient. I'll do my best to maintain, and hopefully improve IWF's efficiency, while still being the good-guy admin that I seem to have a reputation for being.

First change, which takes place the week after NTR: We're going to give Jaxx & Phil's idea for show writing a shot. I'm going to post the card for the BG after NTR. Shortly after the card is posted, creative can expect to get a PM outlining the show's matches, with their assignments. You'll have the full week to write the matches. Segments will be left out, and THOSE will be written up after deadline has passed. To the IWF crew, what is normally the voting deadline will now be the voting deadline as well as the deadline for you to get your segments in for that week.

To CC: My plan as it stands is to slowly wean you off of IWF. Next week, I'm going to write the outline, but you'll likely have a similar workload that you've been dealing with. NTR, same story, though I may cut out a bit of your duties. The BG's after that will go as we planned. I give you one or two matches per week. Eventually, my goal is to even get you out of that. I'm going to try and make it so that you can totally vanish from IWF and IWF will run perfectly fine. I did it last year, and I think it's actually kind of important that you do the same. Being away from IWF completely really recharges you, makes you miss the place like no other, and gives you a kick in the ass to come back and get the ball rolling again. So...right. That's where I'm at right now. You're going to take a vacation if it kills you.

IWF CREATIVE. This is important. What I need each and every one of you to do within the next week is send me your schedule. I need to know what CC was having you do, and I want to know what I can get away with making you do. Tell me EXACTLY what you're able and willing to write on a week to week basis. If you tell me you can write 5 matches per week, I WILL GIVE YOU 5 MATCHES PER WEEK. So bear that in mind. My goal here is to get things running back the way we were running them in 2011. We're going to be efficient, we're going to be creative, and we're going to do it without anyone under threat of ban or murder. Sound like a plan?

Any questions, comments, concerns, complaints, or editorials can be sent to me.

Also, if there are any storylines that you had discussed with CC but not me, I would advise you to send them my way. Thank you kindly.

So here's where I step up. My Fellowship of the Ring moment. You have my sword. I can't offer much. But I can do my match, a squash or short lower-card match, and two segments a week, for ever week but the third week of the month (I have a longstanding RL commitment that takes up Fridays and Saturdays that week) at which point I'll have to drop one of the matches. Hell I can maybe even kick in intros. Sort of like WWE does, the whole "last week on BGs, this is the shit you need to know." I can also try to be more available to the roster. I also know I can book and manufacture SLs. I just have been hesitant in the past because I don't like plotting other people's characters for them, because I don't like having it done to me. Treat others as you would like to be treated kinda thing. But in my time as an admin I've come to see that from time to time we all need that. Anyway, that and my typical site maintenance duties. Like I said, it's not much, but it's what I've got to pitch in.

I've been shouldering the show in terms of writing ever sense I took the spot of admin.

I will continue to do what I can on my end to maintain the balance that is IWF.

YES! CC IS FINALLY GONE!!!!!!!!!!! Get the fuck out you tool!

Seriously though man, good luck with it all. From personal experience finding a new job is a fucking shit thing to have to do, and I truly wish you all the best. You may bust my balls on an almost weekly occasion, but I understand why and kind of need it most of the time lol.

It won't be the same without you here man, and I'm not the only one who thinks that I'm sure. I have no doubt that Chuck can step up to the plate, and I have his back the same way I had yours... half arsed Razz.

Again good luck with the job hunt, and I look forward to seeing your angry, raging face when you return.

All the best.

Gordo.

I feel your pain Corey, went through that exact same thing myself last year around this... still going through it actually. Good Luck on you job search!

As far as what I can do to help? With no computer of my own I can't do much to be honest. But... if anyone needs something never hesitate to ask me anyway.

On a side note about the helping out thing, I can try to help but I have no experience whatsoever and I suck at match writing (I discovered that in another fed boohoo). But I can help to throw in ideas or whatever so I'm still here to help in any way I can to keep this place awesome. bounce

How can I put this into words. For quite a while Corey, you've been a really good friend of mine. I just wan't to let you know, that everything you've done here, has payed off. This is the Best E-Fed on the planet. And I'm not just saying that, I mean it. Even when I take breaks, there's always something that brings me back. I understand why you are stepping down from head admin, and I appreciate it. I think Steel will do a mighty fine job, but I do hope to see you here often. I cannot stress how much I appreciate what you've done here. Congratulations Corey, you've created a master piece.
