Out on the Town

So it's finally happened. Someone bested me in my own game. Have I lost my touch? I feel like a broken man. I feel that I can not fulfill the promise I made to my dying father fourteen years ago. I stumble down the street from the Staples center. After losing I went back to my locker room and downed a half gallon of Jack Daniels.

"I am sorry father. I have failed, and don't see how to make it better."

I continue walking drunkenly, until I come to a Denny's. I walk in and sneer and the patrons and waiters and waitresses daring them to say something to me. As I scan the surroundings I notice the man who beat me sitting in a booth by himself. I shrug and walk over to his booth and slide into the booth uninvited across from him.

"I guess congratulations are in order. You have done what no man has done since I've joined IWF. You bested me in the trail of tears. Something our common enemy Ace Static couldn't do."

I wave down the waitress and order a coke. When she brings it, I survey the room with a cool glare to see if anyone is watching. I then takes out a couple of the small Jack Daniels bottles they give you on planes out of my jacket and pour them into the coke, and stir it with my straw.

I take a drink of my Jack and Coke, and sit quietly contemplating. Finally I speak.

"I really don't know, unfortunately seeing into the future isn't one of the powers I possess. Personally I think we stole the show. Maybe I just don't have it anymore, perhaps I'll never fulfill my father's dying wish..."

I shake my head and down the rest of my coke and Jack. I signal the waitress for another coke and go through the previous process.

I take a drink and grimace.

"Before he died, my father made me promise to bring honor back to my people. I was twelve years old. Shortly after my mother kicked me out of the house. I lived on the streets for six years."

I take another drink.

"This slump has to end. I know I'm better than this. I don't know what's gone wrong."

I nod wisely as I take another drink.

"It seems we have more in common than one would think."

I look out the window and focus my eyes on the clear sky. Suddenly rain begins to pour down.

"IWF is in a new era, just ripe for a group to come in and shake things up a bit."

I nod wisely.

"I'll think about it. I think we all get down sometimes, I'm down myself."

I take another drink.

"Damn women..."

I shake my head.

"Naw not hungry, and yea I know those places in Vegas too."

I chuckle.

"You find a lot of those places when you live on the street."
