| The scene comes in on Rayne doing laundry, no tight clothing as we are used to, a pink jogging suit and pink Keds. Soundgarden's Live to Rise plays in the background as she hums the tune. She smiles to herself as she brushes a light lock from her delicate face. As she's folding, there's a knock on the door. She makes a concerned face as she was not expecting company.
Rayne: Baby?
Rayne looks throughout the house. She looks to the back window to see Ethan shirtless, working on the car. She looks to the door, and walks to it and opens it, she sighs upon the sight.
Rayne: You.
Voice: Me.
Rayne: What are you doing here?
Voice: Now, now, is that anyway to talk to your soon to be brother in law?
Rayne: Answer the question, Austin.
Austin: I'm here to see my brother.
Rayne: What for?
Austin: It's the holidays. Thought my big brother might want to see family right now. Besides, I brought him a gift.
Austin holds up a decent sized box.
Rayne: You couldn't even wrap it.
Austin: I've been busy.
Rayne: He's with his family.
Austin: Look, I'm not here to argue with you. I'm here to see my brother, so whether you let me in now, or I call him on his phone and he let's me in himself, I will be talkin' to him, darlin'.
Rayne: Look, I finally have him home, and not thinking of what could've been, we are home and happy. If I let you in, you don't put thoughts of being a world champion in his head. You got that?
Austin: I'm only here to say Merry belated Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Rayne: I bet. And put the cigarette out, the baby's home.
Austin: Little AJ I bet would love to see his uncle Austin.
Rayne: Not today.
Austin: Whatever.
Rayne opens the door and lets in Austin.
Rayne: He's in the garage.
Austin: Right.
Austin walks to the baby's room and grabs AJ, while Rayne is distracted by the laundry. Austin brings out the baby and whistles to Rayne. Rayne looks up and see AJ in Austin's arms.
Rayne: Damn you.
Austin: Oh come now, you wouldn't want AJ repeating you now would you? And stop putting this kid in Elmo shirts, he'll end up a pussy.
Rayne: You would know.
Austin: Good one. When are you going to get over it?
Rayne: When you die I suppose.
Austin turns his attention to AJ.
Austin: Let's go see if Daddy can be nicer to us.
AJ smiles while he has a toy Ironman in his hand. Austin walks outside with the baby.
Austin: Hey, what's it take to get a phone call now and then?
Ethan looks up to see "the problem child" of his family, Austin Cage.
Ethan: I'm surprised you're here, I mean it's the holidays, usually that means our yearly Christmas text.
Austin: Yeah, about that, I'm sorry. I've just been busy.
Ethan: Street fighting in Italy doesn't make you busy.
Austin: It was Ireland.
Ethan: Whatever.
Austin: Look, I had a long talk with Dad. He told me that you haven't been yourself lately, it's like your mind has been somewhere else.
Ethan: What's he talking about?
Austin: He said at Christmas dinner, you weren't yourself.
Ethan: The Christmas dinner you missed.
Austin: Jesus Christ, I'm here now motherfucker.
Ethan: Rayne!
Rayne: Yes baby.
Ethan: Come get AJ.
Rayne comes outside and walks to get AJ and grabs him from Austin's arms and walks back to the house, giving Austin the cold shoulder.
Austin: When will she get over it already?
Ethan: Sleeping with her sister and leaving her at the engagement party? I don't know....never?
Austin smirks.
Austin: Oh yeah, Madison Atienza, wow, I hadn't thought about her in forever. I was a kid man, I couldn't even buy a beer, what did I know about marriage? Besides, I don't want to be one of those weird brothers with sisters kind of family.
Ethan: Whatever.
Austin walks to the mini fridge and grabs two beers, once again whistles to get Ethan's attention. Austin lobs a beer at him, Ethan catches it.
Austin: 1976 Shelby Mustang....our father was so apeshit about cars, made us crazy about them, didn't he?
Ethan: How's the GTO?
Austin: She's running fine.
Ethan: Finest '67 I've ever seen man.
Austin: Okay, so are we going to get down to this? This last match I saw with Steel Angel, that wasn't you.
Ethan: You've seen my matches?
Austin: IWF website, has a back catalog of your past.
Ethan: And that's just what it is, my past.
Austin: So that's how you want to be remembered?
Ethan: Nobody cares man, they have forgotten about me, so I have about them.
Austin: What are you talking about?
Ethan: I went to their website as well, no pictures, no place in history, no nothing, no record I even won that briefcase. I busted my ass for that briefcase, ended a career, broke hearts and dreams of becoming something better, all so that piece of arrogant shit Griffin can win it off a man that can't even lace up my boot.
Austin: Yeah, because Griffin Hawkins does have it, and that's what's on the record.
Ethan: They have their golden boy, was never me. I've gotten over it, so should you.
Austin: Dad tells me you're fixing cars in a garage to stay afloat. Ethan, look how you live, this house, the cars, the bikes, sooner or later, you're not going to be able to live like this anymore. If you're not going back to IWF, at least come with me to Japan, we'll make a fortune. The technical striker and you, the aerial technician, we'll clean up.
Ethan: I have a family. I can't be a weekend Dad anymore.
Austin: Oh really, I thought you were just being a faggot.
Ethan: What?
Austin: Look at that look in your eye, you want to kill me right now, it's still there.
Ethan: Shut up Austin.
Austin: Fuck you. If you want to sit here and act sorry for yourself that some fucked up company doesn't think enough of you to put them in their history book, after you ditched them for the pay per view and practically handed that briefcase to Griffin, he's living out your dream, your future. He may be IWF's golden boy, but you're still a man. And in a lot of people's eyes, you're still THE man. Who was consistent, who never let that company down, not one week went by where you didn't promote and give your absolute best. You blew a lot of people out of the water with your words and your matches, fuck Griffin and fuck whatever storybook career you thought you were going to have there. It was you and I, Ethan, two of us and one dream, world champion. I'm going to leave you here to think about that, and by the way, the gift is yours.
Austin takes a few steps and hears the box opening behind, he stops but he doesn't look back. Ethan opens the box and pulls out the briefcase he used to have. Austin looks back, seeing Ethan looking at it.
Austin: It's a replica, thought you might want it. To remember who you used to be.
Ethan not taking his eyes off of it.
Austin: Sooner or later, Griffin is going to turn in your title shot, and then after a few months, it'll be up for grabs again. Just something to think about.
Austin turns to walk away but is stopped by Ethan's words.
Ethan: After my match with Steel Angel, I can't remember one day until Christmas day. I remember something different, as if I were in hell.
Austin: You were, staying here and wasting a God given talent like yours....you are in hell.
Austin walks away leaving Ethan to stare at the replica briefcase.
