He had brought the subject up. After we had brought the sacrifice to the altar and laid her down outside the apartment of the Shark, we had been driving back to the warehouse to dispose of the van and the evidence. As we drove through the silence, he had turned to us and said:
VVR Casey…can I tell you something?
We already knew exactly what he was going to tell us. We had sensed a presence within him…something that seemed a lot like us…but was…different. The thing that dwelled inside of him clearly was more biblical…more…religious, than we were. It was almost like how we had been during our time with Salvation…only the thing that dwelt within him seemed more…philosophical
Corey Casey Sure
We had seen him wrestling with the decision to tell us. The indecision on his face was extremely evident. We could see him trying to converse with his other half, having an inward discussion that only we thought that we were capable of having. We had to resist the urge to smile widely and tell him all about our own inner turmoil and our own inner discussions that almost mirrored the one he was having with himself at this very moment. After a few seconds of silence, he spoke
VVR I think that there…there is something wrong with me
We wanted to say “there is nothing wrong with you my friend. In fact, you are one of the only ones that is well enough to realize the full potential that rests inside of you.” Instead, we only nodded our head and said:
Corey Casey What do you mean?
VVR then fell silent, his mind clouded over with the voice and feelings of his other. Yes…there it was…we could see clearly now that he was a lot like us. That this other that resided within VVR was just the person we needed VVR to become. This other was clearly the twisted, more violent, more manipulative side that we needed to free in order to help aid our chosen right hand man to the greatest heights that could be achieved by a mortal man
VVR Well…I feel like there is this complete other…person, I guess, dwelling inside of me. He’s a part of me and everything…but he’s dark...you could almost call him “evil” I guess…
We wanted to scream out “No! he is not evil! He has just moved beyond the realm of human sight and has realized the full potential that you could be achieving. He is the one that we need to free in order to help guide you to the top! He is not evil…he is the one that saw power and wanted to obtain that power by any means necessary!” Instead, we smiled slightly and said:
Corey Casey VVR…there is no good or evil my friend. There is only power. There are two types of people: those who do the manipulating and those who are being manipulated. Those who are doing the manipulating are those that are in power, they make the rules that the rest of the peons who are too afraid to seek power are forced to follow. Right now, VVR, you are one of those peons. But something has awoken in you…something has finally broken free of the bonds put in place by those who are manipulating you…and he wishes to get out…he wishes to help guide you to that power
Our smile turns into a clever smirk that seemingly lights up our whole face. Those would be the moment where we would see if we had chosen correctly. Should VVR finally choose to acknowledge his other, we would make sure to release that other unto the world, it would be, with the help of his other, that VVR would finally realize his true potential.
Corey Casey The real question is VVR…do you wish to become one of those with power…or do you like being a sheep? Do you want to be the one pulling the strings…or do you want to continue your dull existence pandering to the unwashed masses and falling in step with those who are pulling your strings?
VVR is silent for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of releasing his other out into the world. We had had that same discussion, only it hadn’t been driving a van through the darkness of a windy June night in Boston. No…our discussion had taken place within the dark and padded confines of a cell inside of a maximum security mental asylum. We had been forced to finally sit down and have our discussion while being isolated and alone, imprisoned for a crime we didn’t commit after being betrayed by our worst enemy and his filthy accomplice. After a few moments of silence, VVR finally nods his head
VVR I’m in
We had truly smiled then. He was ready to become the one that we needed him to be. He was ready to become the general in our army that we needed him to become. We had reached into our jeans’ pocket and taken out a small piece of paper with an address on it. We had given it to VVR and told him to drive there. VVR had nodded his head and immediately driven to the location.
The location we had chosen was an old abandoned church. The setting was almost too perfect. The lights were dimmed and there were no signs of people being able to get in or out of the church. We had broken into the church through a small downstairs window and then crawled over the broken shards. Luckily, both of us were wearing thick enough clothing to protect to protect us. Before we had left the van, I had grabbed a small black backpack that we had brought along with us just in case VVR finally decided that it was time to awaken the other that dwelt inside of him.
We had led VVR down the main isle of the church and over to a set of stairs on the side. We had then walked down the stairs to the darkest and dankest level of the church. We breathed in the air, reveling in the musty and dampness of it all. This reminded us of our time in the Hall…our time spent alone, with nothing but the voices in our head to talk to. This would be the perfect setting for VVR to finally acknowledge the beast that dwelt within him and to come to terms with that which would lead him to glory
VVR This place is kinda run down
VVR had said, with a hint of nervousness in his voice. We chuckle but do not respond. VVR had no idea how lucky he truly was. He had no idea how truly blessed he was to be able to have this fateful discussion within the confines of the free world. He had no idea what ti was like to be forced into a padded room after taking the beating of a lifetime…he had no idea what it was like to be humiliated in front of a sold out arena full of fans after receiving the worst beating of your entire career…which was only mercifully stopped by the police coming to arrest him and drag him out of the arena in a straightjacket. “ no VVR,” we wanted to say, ”this place isn’t run down…it’s perfect.”
We had walked down the hallway until we came to an old wooden door. The door had long metal beams across it, placed there by some priest or monk long ago in order to keep those who were placed inside from escaping. Our other whispered in our ears that this place was almost custom built for what we had in mind…that this church, this hallway, this room was exactly what we needed in order to free the other that dwelt within VVR. We had reached out and opened the door of the room and then looked inside.
The inside of the room consisted of a bed and a small toilet along with a sink. There was a small, barred window that showed the starry night sky above. We had to keep ourselves from screaming out “this is PERFECT!” It reminded us of the view of the heavens that we had from our small padded room. Only we didn’t have a toilet or a bed. We were forced to sleep on the floor, our knees pulled up to our chin as we tried to assure ourselves that we were not insane.
Corey Casey This is it
We had then set the backpack down on the ground and opened it. A suspicious look had appeared on VVR’s face as we pulled from the bag a straightjacket and a small DVD Video camera.
VVR What’s with the straightjacket and camera?
Oh VVR…you truly had no idea how easy we were taking it on you. You truly had no idea how blessed you were, blessed that we were providing you with a method to record all the steps that would lead up to the single most important moment of your life. We wished that we had had a video camera to record our steps…we wished that we had been brought to a church on our own terms by someone as knowledgeable as we had become. We place the video camera aside and hold out the straightjacket
Corey Casey In order for you to release that which dwells within you…you must bind yourself as we did when we released our others. You must be bound in order to be helpless when it eventually comes time for you to be broken. You must completely put yourself at the mercy of your own mind and not be distracted by the strength and physical prowess that we both know that you possess…
VVR nods then and holds out his arms. We then proceeded to place the instrument of freedom upon the arms and chest of VVR. “Ironic,” we thought to ourselves, “a straightjacket is supposed to bind…it’s supposed to constrict…it’s supposed to deprive the one trapped in its cold embrace of his freedom. But the ones who designed this jacket did not count on the single greatest advantage…its ability to help the wearer separate himself from his physical body and provide him with the opportunity to delve deep within his own mind.”
I finish strapping VVR into the straightjacket, making sure to tighten the belts on the back of the jacket as hard as humanly possible. We didn’t want there to be any chance that he could somehow free himself from the bonds of the only tool that was guaranteed to free him, mind, body and soul. We then release VVR, who takes a step forward and turns around. For a moment, we can see the same look on his face as there was on our face the night that we were first strapped into that most important of tools. Instead of VVR’s face, we see our own face, smiling wildly as we sat in the darkness of the cell, rocking back and forth and talking to out others…a conversation that would lead us to where we were today.
We lean down and grab the video camera before I walk over to the door and lift first one of the metal bars and then the other. I place the iron bars to the side and open the door. I bow down slightly, motioning towards the entrance of the room
Corey Casey After you
VVR didn’t say a word…but then again, he didn’t need to. We knew that he was discussing the coming trial of his mental and emotional state that was bearing down upon him with every step that he took. We knew that he and his other were discussing the darkness and the straightjacket and the strange method of releasing his other that we had chosen for him. as soon as VVR enters the room, he walks over to the small cot in the corner and sits down. I enter the room as well and hold the video camera up in front of VVR’s face
Corey Casey This camera is now recording…
I thumb the red “record” button and set the camera down in the corner of the room. I had made sure that I had bought the biggest DVD available…I wanted to make sure that there was enough space on the DVD to record every second of the transformation. I have to resist the urge to lecture VVR…I have to resist the urge to close the door behind us and lock myself in the room with him…so I could be there when he finally achieves his epiphany. I wanted so badly to be there and see him finally come to the conclusion that he would be better off unleashing his other out into the world and working alongside his other…much like we had those many months ago…
Corey Casey Every single second of your experience here will be recorded…every thought you have that you want to vocalize shall be recorded on this disk. I am doing this so that you have a chance to look back on your experience here and realize the kindness that I have shown you and the greatness that I have played a small part in releasing in you.
Before VVR can say a single thing, I turn and walk out of the door, making sure to close the door tightly behind me. I then chuckle softly as I place the two heavy metal bars across the door. VVR was in for the longest two days of his life. He would go through emotional, physical, and mental agony unlike anything ever experienced by anyone who had not been through the same thing. What I had sentenced VVR to experience would scar him mentally and emotionally…he would never be the same after this experience…
But it would also free a side of him that he never even dreamt he had…it would unleash greatness and glory in him that could never be duplicated…I had helped VVR to unleash the bloodthirsty monster that dwelt inside of him…and that monster would change the face of IWF and the fate of The Chosen forever…
So it was written… …So it shall come to pass... | |
